By decision of the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr Christos Spirtzis, published in the Government Gazette (FEKTech B '1181 of 19 June 2015), the' Regulation on the Rights of Passengers on Public and Freight Roads shall enter into force. fixed track instruments ".
In particular, the Passenger Rights Regulation, concerning public transport (Buses, Railways, Subways, Trams, etc.), lays down:

  • (a) passengers' rights, and in particular their rights in the event of cancellation or delay or in the event of accidents involving the use of public transport by road and resulting in the death or injury of passengers or the loss or damage of their luggage.
  • The obligations of carriers, including the operation of a passenger complaints handling mechanism, the establishment of instructions and training procedures for the carrier directly in contact with the traveling public to raise awareness of disability, payment of compensation to passengers, etc.
  • The terms of service of the carriers of transport and other passenger transport services to passengers.
  • Specific rules that transport operators must adhere to when carrying out bus and coach transport, with particular emphasis on avoiding discrimination (direct and indirect) between passengers, providing all relevant general information on the route and conditions of transport, etc.
  • Minimum information on the route to be provided to passengers.
  • Pet Transport Issues
In particular and in accordance with Article 4 of the Passenger Rights Regulation:
b. MOVEMENT WITH ANIMALS
  1. Pet animals may be transported by road and stationary vehicles, at the passenger's discretion and at the discretion of the driver or other designated personnel of the carrier depending on the occupancy of the vehicle / train and the safety of passengers (excluding helpline dogs). ), provided that:
    • They are housed in a secure transport cage of up to 70cm. x 40cm x 50cm in the case of regular urban lines or in a secure transport cage, closed type up to 50cm. x 40cm x 35cm in the case of long-distance and regular services.
    • Accompanied by their owner or owner.
    • The owner or owner of the animal carries the individual health booklet; the animal's passport.
    • The owner or owner of the animal is nearby and they take care not to injure or disturb other passengers.
    • They place them in the free spaces of vehicles / trains, except for corridors, at the entry / exit points of the passengers and at the validation of the tickets so as not to endanger the safe movement of other passengers.
    • In the case of intercity, intra-Community regular and occasional transport, they must be compulsorily carried within the passenger compartment and in no case at all in the luggage compartment (including in the case of animals in parcels).
  2. Specifically, helpline dogs, ie blind guide dogs and helpline dogs, as well as dogs in the process of training as helpline dogs are transferred as follows:
    • No carry cage and no muzzle, provided they have a handle strap, regardless of their size.
    • The user or trainer, where appropriate, of the assistance dog shall bring and display, when requested by the Comptrollers or specially designated officials for this purpose, statutory documents certifying the training of the animal ( if it is trained or trained), its health, and that the user or trainer of the assistance dog has the relevant certification and proof of use of the animal.
    • In the case of a user or trainer who is an EU citizen. or a third-country national but stays in Greece for a short time, then the necessary certificates, as issued by an official body or agency of the country of origin, must be translated into English. In case of long-term stay of the user or trainer in Greece (eg work reasons, permanent residence, etc.), these certificates must be officially translated into Greek by the Greek authorities abroad (Embassies etc.). etc., in accordance with the applicable legislation.
    • The user or trainer, where appropriate, of the assistance dog shall ensure that the vehicle / train is kept clean and that other passengers within the vehicle / train are unhindered and unhindered. It should be noted that in the event of damage, the general provisions of the Civil Code on the liability of the owner of the animal for damage caused by it to a third party (Article 924 of the Code) apply.
